Windle International USA
Conflict and instability in eastern Africa make it one of the world’s most fragile regions, with over 11 million people being forcibly displaced.
Forcibly displaced people are 36 times less likely to be able to access tertiary education, or technical and vocational training, compared to the rest of the world. Yet education is a basic human right; in eastern Africa, it protects children and youth from child labour, sexual exploitation, forced recruitment into militia and child marriage.
Windle International empowers people to make lasting changes in their own lives, in their communities and in wider society. Every year, Windle helps refugees, people affected by conflict, and those who have been marginalised to access quality education. We passionately believe that those who have been affected by conflict and marginalisation should be the architects of peaceful societies.
Windle International USA
Windle International USA is part of this mission to promote peaceful development and allow children to fulfil their potential despite war, famine, climate change and other factors beyond their own individual control. Windle International USA supports, advocates for and promotes the mission and vision of the original founder of Windle, Hugh Pilkington.
WI-USA does this through support from large donors - both institutional and private - concerned individuals and other partners.
Our Structure
Windle International USA focuses its activities on fundraising for all the educational and refugee programmes Windle manages across East Africa. WI-USA is a registered non-profit with 501 (c)3 status and has a small Board of Directors, that supports the Windle International fundraising manager and reports into the over-arching Windle International Council.
