Recognising the importance of well-trained teachers in delivering quality education that ultimately improve students’ outcomes, Windle International Somalia invests in teachers training programmes. These initiatives aim to enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers working in remote areas or regions affected by conflicts.

As a measure to improve quality without further exacerbating the already low teacher pupil’s ratio in schools, Windle employs an “OJT”, or on-the-job, model using an innovative blended approach which includes coaching and mentoring to provide certified training to teachers and continuous professional development.

Windle International Somalia provides scholarships to deserving students who lack the financial means to pursue their education. In Somalia, Windle International in partnership with UNHCR, implements the DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) programme that supports refugees’ students in pursuing higher education. DAFI aims to empower refugees through education and enable them to contribute to the reconstruction and development of their home countries. The Programme provides financial support, academic counselling and guidance to refugee students and helps them overcome barriers and achieve their educational goals.

As an educational organisation, Windle International Somalia also focuses on improving the education infrastructure in emergency settings by providing supports to communities that are affected by conflicts, floods, and droughts.

Since 2020, WISOM, through its emergency education interventions, has constructed classrooms, sanitary supports like hand washing stations, libraries, TLMs and other facilities necessary for effective learning environments. By providing safe and conducive spaces for education, the organisation aims to create enabling environments for students’ holistic development.

In line with government strategy on increasing access to employment opportunities and suitable livelihoods, WISOM uses different pathways to assist youth that are largely affected by conflicts and crisis in Somalia.

Windle International Somalia implements the Learn -to- Earn Programme that seeks to address the gaps and provide complementary pathways opportunities for displaced youth while providing functional entrepreneurial and market driven skills that will enable them to become self-sufficient.

Under the Refugee Talent Tap Initiative Programme, Windle International Somalia also works to provide opportunities to UNHCR Persons of Concern (POCs) to have access to Education and Employment pathway in the Third Country while meeting their international protection needs. This is in line with the UNHCR 2019 education strategy.
